Semenggoh Wildlife Center
The Semenggoh Wildlife Center is located approximately 25 km drive from the Kuching city. It was established in 1975 to care for injured, orphaned or illegally kept wild animals. The Center was famous for its Orang Utan rehabilitation programme, successfully reintroducing many of them into the surrounding forest reserve.
The programme was so successful that the forest carryinog capacity was reached, and rehabilitation activities have been transferred to Matang Wildlife Center, part of Kubah National Park. The center is now a center for studying orang utan biology and behaviour, as well as a safe and natural home for dozens of semi-wild orang utan, graduates of the rehabilitation programme.
A visit to Semenggoh is a once in a lifetime experience - a chance to see semi-wild orang utan, ranging from tiny infants to dignified mature adults, enjoying life in a secure natural habitat.
